Wet and windy weather will taper down across the West on Monday as the strong storm system impacting the region lifts northeastward to Ontario Canada and the associated cold front pushes eastward through the Plains. As the system departs the West, showers along much of the West Coast are expected to end during the morning hours, while much of the leftover inland showers and high elevation snowfall tapers off by the afternoon. A large upper trough of low pressure in the northeast Pacific will maintain moist onshore flow across the Pacific Northwest, allowing showers, mountain snow, and possibly a few coastal thunderstorms to persist.
As the system heads eastward, showers and thunderstorms will pick up across the Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes during the morning hours. This activity will expand southward, ahead of the cold front through the day across areas of the Mid-Mississippi Valley and southeastern Kansas. Gulf of Mexico moisture streaming north to northeastward in advance of this system will trigger a few additional showers as well as isolated thunderstorms from eastern Texas into areas of the Ozarks.
Further east, showers in the Northeast will taper off through Monday morning as the cold front impacting the region pushes across the East Coast by the afternoon. Showers are expected to continue ahead of the southern portion of this disturbances across parts of the Ohio Valley.
