Authorities say they've managed to control a forest fire in the central Upper Peninsula, where the danger of blazes continues because of dry conditions and the normal spring ground conditions.
The Department of Natural Resources says the 6.2-acre fire broke out Saturday in Marquette County near Gwinn.
DNR forest fire officer Dan Nathan tells The Mining Journal of Marquette that the fire apparently started when a four-wheeled vehicle drove over dry land.
Nathan says authorities had a fire-spotting plane in the air at the time because of the conditions, and it saw the blaze.
He says there were at least four other fires in the Upper Peninsula Saturday. A fire last week consumed about 1,400 acres of the Huron National Forest in the northern Lower Peninsula.
