DAYTON, OH – In his first start of the season, catcher Chris Schaeffer delivered two doubles and an RBI single, helping the Lansing Lugnuts (25-11) defeat the Dayton Dragons (14-23), 6-3, on a Mother’s Day matinee at Fifth Third Field.

The first place Lugnuts are 5-0 against eighth place Dayton this season, with all five meetings taking place in Ohio.

Lansing starter David Rollins (Win, 3-0) worked five innings for the victory, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out one.

Batterymate Schaeffer helped take care of the necessary offense, doubling and scoring in a two-run Lugs’ third inning before capping a 13-pitch at-bat against Dayton starter Dan Jensen (Loss, 1-3) with an RBI single in the fourth.

Right fielder Chris Hawkins went 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Kenny Wilson and Jon Berti each scored a pair of runs to assist the offense.

Blake McFarland worked two scoreless innings in relief, striking out two, yielding to Javier Avendano for a scoreless eighth.

The Dragons scored a pair of runs on three hits against Ajay Meyer in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.

Lugnuts left fielder Kevin Pillar went 0-for-5 a day after his record-tying six-hit performance.

Lansing right-hander Marcus Walden (2-1, 2.56) opposes Dragons right-hander Radhames Quezada (1-3, 2.50) in the third game of the series, 7:00 p.m. Monday.

Lansing returns home on a Ladies Night, Wednesday, May 16th, to open a three-game series against Fort Wayne on Jackson Field. Tickets are available online at the team website at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
