The Detroit Tigers broke open a tight game late and beat the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park, 7-2. The Tigers beat the Rays' ace, Jeff Nieman. The Tigers finish their opening homestand 5-1 and open their first road trip Friday afternoon in Chicago against the White Sox.
