Illininois fired men's basketball coach Bruce Weber Friday, a week after releasing women's coach Jolette Law. New athletic director Mike Thomas also released football coach Ron Zook after last season. Weber coached nine seasons at Illinois. He may be replaced by Shaka Smart, the coach at Virginia Commonwealth, who took his team to the Final Four a year ago. Weber may end up returning to Southern Illinois. Illinois has a 17-15 record and lost in the first round of the Big Ten tournament Thursday to Iowa 64-61. Illinois lost nine of its last ten games. Weber took the Illini to the Final Four in St. Louis in 2005.
