OLIVET, Mich. – Junior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) recorded a triple double (10 points, 11 assists and 15 rebounds) to help the Olivet College women’s basketball team beat Kalamazoo College, 69-37, today inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. With the win, Olivet improves its overall record to 15-7 and remain third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 10-3 mark. The 15 wins ties the single-season school record, as the Comets also had 15 wins during the 1986-87 season.

The Hornets took a 3-0 lead before Olivet answered with a three-pointer from senior Kaleigh Hill (Niles). Kalamazoo regained the lead, 5-3 and 7-5, until the Comets tied the game both times at 5-5 and 7-7. From there, Olivet went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-7 lead. The teams traded baskets until the Comets surged ahead by 15, 32-17, at halftime.

Olivet opened the second half with a 6-0 run to stretch its lead to 21 points. The Hornets got a three-pointer to make the score, 38-20, but they would not get any closer for the rest of the game. The Comets led by as many as 34 points, 69-35, with 1:58 left in the game.

For the game, Olivet shot 40 percent (26-of-65) to 23 percent (14-of-61) for Kalamazoo. The Comets had a 55-33 advantage in rebounding, and turned the ball over two less times. Sophomore Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points. Campbell posted her triple double in only 29 minutes of action. Senior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) also scored 10 points.

Nicole Antoine and Emily Lindsay each had eight points for the Hornets.

Olivet will play its final three regular season games on the road, beginning next Wednesday, Feb. 6, when it plays Hope College at 7:30 p.m.
