The Detroit Tigers announced Tuesday that manager Jim Leyland will return for an 8th season next year on a one year contract. Leyland will soon turn 68. His entire coaching staff will also return. The Tigers have also picked up options on Jhonny Peralta and Octavio Dotel-- so they will return. The Tigers have four free agents who can sign elsewhere if they desire beginning Saturday-- Jose Valverde, Gerald Laird, Anibal Sanchez and Delmon Young. Valverde and Young are not expected to return.
