EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State senior right-hander Tony Bucciferro has been named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Bucciferro threw a five-hit, complete game shutout and struck out nine batters, one shy of his career high, to lead Michigan State past Iowa, 6-0, on Friday, May 11 at McLane Baseball Stadium.

It marked the fourth complete game shutout of Bucciferro's career, and in the process, he became the all-time leader in innings pitched at MSU with 352 1/3.

This marks the third time in his career and the second time this season Bucciferro has earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors. He was also named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after throwing six shutout innings on Opening Day earlier this season against then-No. 11 St. John’s. Last season, Bucciferro garnered the award following his five-hit, complete game shutout over Minnesota on April 9.

"I was just able to execute my pitches," said Bucciferro after the game, as he improved to 4-0 in his career against Iowa. "I had outstanding defense behind me; I can't say enough about it, they were making plays all day for me.”

The Michigan State baseball team (33-17) returns to action Tuesday to face Central Michigan at 7 p.m. in the “Clash at Comerica” in downtown Detroit.
