Praying Against Violence

Posted: 7:30 PM Sep 24, 2013

When your city is listed as the 80th most dangerous in the nation, you'll take any help you can get-- even prayers.

About two dozen people met at the Newport Calvary Baptist Church in Lansing, thinking of those who have died because of crime and asking for help on how to turn things around.

"Once it comes from home and the parents, then the teachers will do their part and the city officials, police officers, political leaders will do the rest," said Pastor W.J. Rideout. "If everyone comes together and begins to form a peace form throughout the city, things will change."

Rideout made an extra appeal to the black community to work extra hard to keep young people out of crime noting the high crime rate among black youth.
