Police, Prosecutors Take Aim at Medication Fraud

LANSING - Police in Lansing are targeting medication fraud. Monday Lansing Police Chief Teresa Szymanski announced the Lansing police arrested 7 of 12 suspects accused of fraud. Police say the suspects would use fraudulent prescriptions for pills such as Oxycontin and Vicodin, then turn around and sell the medications on the street for two to three times their store value. The Ingham County Prosecutor's office, the State Attorney General's office and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are all taking part in the investigation and prosecution of these cases. Three f the twelve cases are being prosecuted by the state Attorney General's Office. The suspects face various felony charges that carry sentences as much as 4 years in prison and fines as high as $30,000. Five suspects are still being sought.
