Teammates Watch Jordyn Wieber Miss Out On Gold

Her Twistars teammaters wore red, white and blue leotards to support Jordyn Wieber as they watched her live in their gym during her one and only individual event.

Unfortunately, Tuesday's floor routine was not a gold medal performance.

"I think she did fine, I just don't think she did what she wanted to do," said Maddie Bonofiglio, Jordyn's Twistars teammate. "So, I just feel bad for her for that, like I don't want her to have any regrets, and I don't think she should."

Her teammates couldn't help but notice how disappointed Jordyn looked after her performance that her seventh place.

"I think that she expected more out of herself, like she knew she could have done better," said Nicole Eastman, another Twistars teammate. "I think in the end she's going to realize she won the gold for the team, and so, she's going to be proud of herself. Right now she's just down, but I know she'll come back up, I know she will."

A Twistars coach said she went for the team gold, and it's hard to come back from that high.

"You know that she wanted to do a little bit better routine, and it's not like she was out there dogging it, she gave it her all, and it just wasn't her best today," said coach Brett Wargo. "So, there's nothing wrong with that, you just move onto the next one."

It may not have been the performance everyone hoped for, including Jordyn, but her teammates said they came back to practice feeling more inspired than ever.

"Because I know Jo and how hard she works, I know it's possible, and if you work as hard as you can, you can do anything," said Arlyn Amor.

Over in Jordyn's hometown of DeWitt, Wieber Fever hasn't cooled down. The reservation are still rolling in at Relli's, the Italian restaurant that's had nightly specials during Wieber's events.

"It will still be crazy in here," said waitress Stephanie Kossaras. "Everyone is still very supportive and excited and proud of her."

Nothing's changed for Wieber's biggest, albeit also smallest, fans.

"When I'm having bad days sometimes, I think of her, and she makes my day all better," said 9-year-old Twistars gymnast Elizabeth Hamel.
