Income Tax Cut Bill to Be Introduced Tuesday

Posted: 7:38 PM May 24, 2012
Reporter: Associated Press

House Republicans plan to introduce measures next week that would move up an income tax cut from January to October and increase how much income someone can earn before taxes kick in.
House GOP spokesman Ari Adler said Thursday the bills will be introduced Tuesday.
House Republican Speaker Jase Bolger says he wants to return $90 million of a budget surplus to taxpayers.
The Michigan League for Human Services says the move is an election-year gimmick. It says the money would be better spent offering preschool or dental care to low-income children.
The league says a millionaire would save hundreds of dollars if Michigan's 4.35 percent income tax rate is rolled back to 4.25 percent before Jan. 1. It says a family earning $66,000 would save less than $30.
