Actually, have fun with those nigerians. Keep coming up with dumb excuses or say some of the dumbest things. The more you waste their times and money, that is one less potential victim they can have. I heard of one guy doing this and he got four checks from them and he kept it up for weeks.

Lansing Police said they don't have anything on the books about this scam yet.
Why not? It seems these scammers would be easy to catch since they have to provide some information or actually appear in order to get money (ever heard of sting operations?).
It just gets me furious that the police will chase a “suspect” car through a busy intersection (even though they had all the info needed to issue a ticket), causing innocent people to be seriously injured, but yet they won't "chase" these scammers who are sitting down! Why can’t they use the same “gotta-get-‘em-whatever-the-cost” attitude to bring scammers/thieves to justice?
Makes me wonder what I’m paying taxes for, since I’m now scared to cross the main intersection a few blocks from my home (Police chase ends in 5-car crash in Lansing), where innocent, law-abiding citizens were put in danger by a police chase!
Just look at how many articles have been printed in this newspaper alone related to police chases. Something's not right. The local police need to learn how to “chase” in a different, non-violent way! I’d like to believe the police and prosecutors are working for the citizens and not just using their positions to be bullies with fast cars and guns. Get to work and catch these scammers using stings and undercover operations, and then prosecute them to the full extent of the law (including restitution)! …… and please stop chasing cars!

Really good reporting on the dangers we all face in the computer age. Shannon Kantner did a good job.

My wife and I have been trying to fina a home for a couple of months now and we run into these scams daily. We've been contacted by people who say they are on a mission trip in West Africa and Nigeria and to send them the deposit and firsts months rent and they'll mail the key to us... haha. Id say a good 25% of the ads on there are scams. Just be careful and never give out your info before you made contact in person and have been able to verify the home exists and it is truly for sale. Its sad because there are a lot of honest people trying to find homes and I'm assuming some of them fall for these scams.

Always check with code compliance to make sure house is a registered rental. You can call and ask if it has a good rental certificate.

this isn't new, this is an ongoing thing that has been happening on craigslist constantly everywhere for years.
