There is no active bear population in Lansing. If you want to be afraid of something wild, then coyotes should be it...A pack of coyotes could easily kill an adult, while a single coyote could easily kill a child or pets. The population of coyotes in this area is getting larger and larger every year. I've seen them running down the middle of residential streets, and I hear them almost on a nightly basis... but you warn us of something that doesn't even exist in this area with the exception of a stray every 10-15 years?? This "bear warning" for Lansing from the DNR is a joke. WILX has likely succeeded in scaring the daylights out of people by neglecting to be more specific regarding what areas of Michigan this bear warning truly pertains too!
