STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- The chairwoman of Penn State's Board of Trustees says the school hopes to have Joe Paterno's widow "back in the fold" as an ambassador for the university.
Karen Peetz said Friday the board would like to be in talks with Sue Paterno and her family, and is "regularly making overtures" to having such conversations.
Tensions between the board and the family have been high since the board ousted Joe Paterno in November as head football coach in the aftermath of child sexual abuse charges against retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Paterno died in January at age 85.
Responding to a reporter's question about the Paternos, Peetz said the family had given so much of its time and money to the school. She says the family stands for Penn State.
