5 Armed Robberies in Jackson Area in 5 Days
JACKSON -- Five days, five armed robberies in the Jackson area.
The first was Corner's Party Store, where the cashier was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night.
Three days later on Wednesday, another armed robbery there.
"The suspect in this incident did display a weapon and asked for money, and then soon thereafter left the scene," said Jackson County Sheriff Steven Rand.
It's got the regular customers at Corner's skiddish.
"I definitely won't come after it starts getting dark," one woman said.
"My husband wouldn't let me come up here after he heard about the first one," said another. "And now that he found out there's a second one?"
Three other convenience stores have been hit since Sunday.
Josie's Takeout on Monday night, an Admiral gas station on Tuesday, and Tate's Takeout in Summit Township on Thursday night.
Police think one guy might be behind all of them.
"Similar suspect descriptions, similar M.O.," Rand said. The perpetrator is described as a young, light-skinned black male, about 5-foot-10.
The Jackson County Sheriffs Office and Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team are joining the city in the investigation.
One official tells us they're close to identifying a suspect, but JPD has not confirmed that.
Some shop owners, meanwhile, are considering new measures to protect themselves.
One store near Tate's is happy to have bullet-proof glass separating customers from the cash register.
"Yeah, I feel pretty safe back there because of that bullet-proof glass we have, ya know," the manager said.
But owners and customers alike are hoping they don't have to be on high-alert much longer.
The sheriffs office urges anyone with information to call, noting there's a reward for information leading to an arrest.
