University of Michigan OKs Neuroscience Hospital

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- The University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor plans a $163 million project to turn a closed hospital complex into a facility that focuses on diseases of the nervous system.
The school's Board of Regents on Thursday approved the project, which is expected to conclude at the end of 2014.
Neuroscience services will move into the new facility in the former Mott and Women's Hospital complex.
The health system will realign some services in its main hospital, creating 120 more beds. That includes 25 additional intensive care beds.
Eight more operating rooms also will be added.
All rooms in the neuroscience building will be private.
The health system opened an ambulatory surgery center in 2006 and cardiovascular center a year later. Its emergency department was expanded last year.
