A 34-year-old southeastern Michigan woman has been ordered tried on first-degree child abuse and torture charges involving her young step-grandson.
Sara Rae Walters of Osceola Township waived her right to a preliminary examination Wednesday and remains jailed with a $200,000 bond.
Livingston County Sheriff's officials say doctors at the University of Michigan Hospital in October found the 3-year-old boy had suffered more than 60 different injuries, including blood on the surface of his brain. His core body temperature was 88 degrees.
The abuse is believed to have occurred at Walters' home. The charges against her came after a three-month investigation.
The Lansing State Journal says Judge Carol Sue Reader has ordered lawyers in the case not to discuss it.
