As of Thursday, synthetic drugs like K2 and bath salts are no longer able to be sold in Clinton, Gratiot and Montcalm Counties, after they were declared to be 'threats to public health' by the Mid-Michigan District Health Department.

Other local counties, like Eaton and Ingham, have yet to make any decisions regarding these drugs.

According to the Eaton County Health Officer, Steve Tackitt, it is because they have not had any major issues regarding the drugs.

"We haven't had any referrals from law enforcement, or hospitals, or school systems," said Tackitt. "One thing it would take would be information from those three sources that there, in fact, has been a negative impact."

Ingham County Health Officer, Dr. Renee Canady, said that health officials and police would be meeting next Tuesday regarding the subject.

According to health officials, synthetic drugs can cause health problems like suicidal thoughts, violent behavior and death.
