Shoppers Hit Local Stores on Black Friday

Standing outside, waiting for a store's doors to open may be a crazy thought to many, but not for Black Friday shoppers.

This year, many stores opened earlier than ever before. Some on Thanksgiving night...and the demand was there. Huge lines waited outside doors early on as people left their plates to go shopping.

"We were pretty crazy, we had a line wrapped around the store," said Jeremiah Hernandez, General Manager of Best Buy in Delta Township. "We anticipated a big crowd and that's what we saw last night."

At Best Buy, the crowd cheered as the store opened its doors promptly at midnight. Hernandez says preparation and organization is key when getting ready for Black Friday.

"We start preparing two months in advance," said Hernandez. "Just simple processing as far as where the line queues are going to be, what kind of barriers we set up, what kind of security we have in the store."

Over at the Okemos Meijer, its door busters began at 6 a.m., with three different lines for three different deals, but Friday morning, one item clearly stood above the rest.

"I'd say probably the hottest item we had today was the iPad," said Store Director, Chris Wilson.

Turns out Meijer ran out of iPads just 45 minutes after they started selling them, but Wilson says that's how things go on Black Friday.

"I would say there are some pretty intense hours when it comes to sales," said Wilson.
