A man from Sterling Heights is in the hospital after a late-night car crash in Jackson County. The Sheriff's Office says the 52-year-old man was heading north on Strait Road in Hanover Township and didn't stop at a stop sign. His 2002 Chrysler mini-van then drove through the intersection, hit a large rock, and then hit a utility pole, snapping the pole in half. The vehicle came to a stop about 200 feet off the roadway. The man was thrown from his van; he was the only person in the vehicle. He was taken to the UM Hospital and is in serious condition. The Sheriff's Office says alcohol was a likely factor in this accident.
