Judge Gives Another Break to Man Tied to MSU Arson

DETROIT (AP) -- A judge has reduced the sentence of a man who set a major fire at Michigan State University and committed other acts of violent environmental protest.
Frank Ambrose's nine-year sentence has been cut to just under six years because of his substantial assistance to the government. Kalamazoo federal Judge Paul Maloney didn't elaborate in his order Monday.
Ambrose has been in prison since 2008. Many documents apparently related to a request for a reduced sentence have been filed but sealed.
Ambrose was a radical environmentalist who set fire at Michigan State University's Agriculture Hall in 1999 to protest plant research, causing $1 million in damage. He also admitted other acts.
Ambrose changed his ways and became a government informant, cooperation that helped him when he was first sentenced in 2008.
