A heat emergency has been declared for the Lansing area today. Temperatures will reach near 100 degrees. Heat Index readings this afternoon will be in the 105-110 range.
Try to get to a cool place today for a at least a few hours. Cooling centers are open across the area. To find one near you call 2-1-1.
Also, you are warned to avoid outdoor activities, especially between the hours of 2 and 6PM. And if you must go out, take signs of heat-related illness seriously.
Finally, don't forget to take care of pets during the extreme heat as well. Make sure they have plenty of water and a cool place to rest.
