One More Hot Day

An Excessive Heat Warning continues for the area until this evening.

Lansing had a record high temperature of 103 Friday and Jackson hit 101, both set new records. Today will still be hot with high temperatures in the mid 90s near Lansing and still close to 100 south of I-94. A cold front is heading south across the state and behind the front cooler air for Sunday. The front may stir up strong to severe thunderstorms today as it slowly heads south. This will be our one chance for rain until the end of next week. The chance of rain is about 50% today and 30% tonight.

Several days of afternoon heat index numbers around 100 coupled with overnight heat indices in the mid 70s will make it particularly dangerous due to the inability for those without air conditioning to cool off. The elderly and young children are especially susceptible to the effects of the heat and should take extra precautions.

If you work or spend time outside try to re-schedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
