Reporter: News 10

A police pursuit down Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. ended when the car being chased smashed into other cars.

Just before noon, Monday, Lansing police began chasing the car with three suspects inside following a report of shots being fired in the 3200 block of South Washington.

An eyewitness tells WILX.com that the car swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a SUV. At least two other cars were hit on MLK at Le Grand just north of Cavanaugh Street.

According to police, five people were taken to the hospital following the accident with various injuries, one being critically injured. A police officer is also being treated for minor injuries after injuring his hand during a foot pursuit of one of the suspects.

Police say it started when three men robbed another in an apartment building on South Washington. Two of the robbers fired handguns and then fled. No one was hurt.

Two handguns were recovered in the MLK wreckage.

Northbound and southbound lanes of MLK are now closed between Holmes and Cavanaugh until further notice.
