DeWitt Boy Drowns in Michigan Lake

STANTON, Mich. -- A 16-year-old DeWitt teen has drowned in Montcalm County's Clifford Lake

The body of James Joseph McCarthy was recovered Friday night in about eight feet of water 30 yards off shore.

The boy was last seen preparing to go kayaking at about 8 p.m. McCarthy's grandmother called 911 when family members lost sight of him.

Authorities say it's still unclear how the teen drowned, but authorities say alcohol was not a factor.
