Wheeldon Sentenced To 24-50 Years Behind Bars

Posted: 7:53 AM Nov 29, 2012
Reporter: News 10

The man who fled during his racketeering trial last May is finally sentenced Thursday.

Ricky Wheeldon will spend the next 24-50 years behind bars for running a criminal enterprise. He was arrested in October after more than 5 months on the run.

Duane Chapman, AKA "Dog the Bounty Hunter", was in court for Wheeldon's sentencing. He was brought in to help find Wheeldon after he skipped out on a $500,000 bond.

Wheeldon was originally arrested in November 2010, after investigators found hundreds of stolen items and dozens of guns at properties Wheeldon owns in Jackson County. He left during a lunch break during his trial in May, the same day the jury convicted him.

Wheeldon is also facing charges in Ingham County, stemming from his October arrest in Leslie Township. Michigan State Police say they found drugs and a gun on Wheeldon. He was a passenger in a car driven by a friend, who is also facing charges.
