As 80 potential jurors walked into the courtroom to be interviewed Friday, they were greeted with a "How y'all doing?" by suspected serial killer Matthew Macon-- the man they possibly could set free or put behind bars.
The first 16 to go into the jury box received the most questioning.
Have you been assaulted? Do you know any of the witnesses? Do you think Macon is guilty?
It was questioning that was often getting Macon's attorney, Mike O'Briant, into hot water with Judge William Collette-- calling questions like "What does being framed mean to you?" dubious.
At times, assistant prosecutor Catherine Emerson's questioning directly reflected what will likely be the gruesome nature of the upcoming trial.
"Do you think some people might like to kill for fun? Do you think some people kill for no reason whatsoever?" she asked potential jurors.
After three hours of questioning, a jury of 11 men and five women was selected. O'Briant is pleased.
"I think it proceeded fairly," he said to News 10 after jury selection. "We're finished with voi dire and we'll start with opening statements Monday."
As for his client, O'Briant says Macon is ready for trial.
"As you see, he's holding up fine."
But one of the biggest questions during jury interviews revolved around Macon not wanting to to take the stand during his trial, and if his not testifying would affect jurors' opinions.
All the jurors selected said no.
Trial begins Monday at 8:30 a.m.
