LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A bill approved by the Michigan House would trim the number of judges on the state's Court of Appeals.
The measure passed 106-0 Tuesday would trim the number of judges on the appeals court to 24. State law now allows for 28 judges, although there are two empty positions because Gov. Rick Snyder hasn't filled vacancies.
The State Court Administrative Office has suggested that the four positions could be eliminated because the number of filings in the appeals system has dropped in recent years.
The bill that would allow for the redistricting of the appeals court next returns to the Senate.
