Street parking will be prohibited in a section of downtown as Detroit police battle a rise in thefts from cars and trucks in the area.
Police are encouraging people to park their vehicles Sunday in well-lit lots. Olympia Entertainment is reducing rates on its lots in and around downtown as part of the initiative.
Police say in a release that parking violations will be enforced and patrols in the area west of Woodward will be increased to prevent larcenies.
The initiative was started Thursday.
