All eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 in western Wayne County have reopened after being closed for emergency repairs.
Officials say all lanes of an overpass at Southfield Road in Allen Park, about 10 miles south-southwest of Detroit, reopened Monday morning after being shut down without warning Friday. A Michigan Department of Transportation engineer had noticed that pavement appeared to have dropped by a quarter to half an inch, indicating a problem with the bridge's supports.
Officials said the bridge was never at risk of collapse.
Spokesman Rob Morosi tells The Detroit News that a ramp from westbound I-94 to the southbound portion of the freeway will likely remain closed until Monday night.
