The dust has settled on the primary and Tim Walberg finds himself in a very familiar position, facing off against Mark Schauer in a general election.

"I was fairly confident this could happen," Walberg said Tuesday night. "All the polling in January said this could, but I'm a pessimistic optimist. I had to wait and see. I'm glad it turned out this way."

Walberg nabbed more than 60 percent of the vote Tuesday, and it was clear early on that newcomers Brian Rooney and Marvin Carlson had been beat. Both men now plan to support Walberg in the general election.

"I told him good luck," Rooney said Tuesday. "Anything you need me to do. He has my cell phone number, I'll do anything for him, if he wants me to campaign I will, if he wants me to write a check, I will."

Financial support is exactly what Walberg will need going into November -- incumbent Mark Schauer has plenty of it.

"We raised a lot of money, Walberg said, "sadly we spent it. Unfortunately, we spent it in the primary, but some dollars were spent telling people about Mark Schauer's record, so it wasn't all lost."

Walberg believes pinning Schauer's record against his own should help with fund raising -- Schauer's camp said their ready for the challenge.

Mark Schauer will unofficially begin his campaign Wednesday at the Delta Township GM plant.
