Just 27 days until the August primary, and the clock is ticking for all the candidates for governor.
"There are planning efforts going on as well as fund raising going on, there's media planning," Virg Bernero said. "There are a lot of different efforts going on at once."
Which includes but is not limited to Bernero said, knocking on doors, making phone calls, and perhaps running a TV ad.
"Stay tuned," he said.
His opponent, Andy Dillon, has already bought air time. His campaign said they plan for more. Their 30-day strategy? Taking his 42-page work book state wide.
Republican Rick Snyder has spent a lot on TV time, and will release even more ads. His campaign is also counting on grass roots efforts to introduce this business man to Michigan -- 35 state-wide town halls so far, with more to come.
Mike Cox's campaign tells News Ten voters can expect more TV time and more appearances by the Attorney General across the state to get his message out.
As for Pete Hoekstra, his spokesman said the plan is to keep the congressman in the lead.
"We've sent out mailers to absentee voters," John Truscott said. "We're going on the air this week. We will continue with it all. We have a brutal schedule from now until election day."
Political Analyst Bill Ballenger said the candidates must do more with less.
"The candidates just did not have not had the money to spend as they did four years ago and even 8 years ago," Ballenger said.
Ballenger said he wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the candidates spent a bulk of their money in the last two weeks of July.
"They're going to have to continue to raise money and try to get the message out as much as they can," he said.
Typically, only 20 percent of registered voters actually turn out for a primary. Couple that with so many undecided voters out there this year, and you know why Ballenger thinks the candidates have their work cut out for them.
