More than three dozen live dogs, a dozen cats and about six rabbits are getting veterinary treatment after being removed from a small home in the Detroit suburb of Redford Township.
Redford police Lt. Eric Gillman says Thursday that authorities still were trying to determine if other animals are inside.
He says neighbors alerted police Wednesday. Gillman says when officers arrived the homeowners allowed them inside where they found "deplorable conditions" and floors "covered in dog waste, urine."
A mother and daughter, ages 66 and 44, were taken to a hospital for observation.
The animals were taken to shelters.
Mutts and Mutts Rescue League took 13 dogs and puppies from one shelter to Angel Animal Hospital in Farmington Hills where they will receive veterinary care.
