Lansing Police Arrest Serial Killer

Lansing police Chief Mark Alley announced Thursday afternoon the arrest of a man they believe killed five Lansing women and attempted to kill one more.

They are releasing few details on the suspect, but say he is the man seen in the sketch police released on Tuesday. A 56-year-old woman survived an attack, and was able to help police create a composite.

Police are connecting the man they've arrested to the murders of Ruth Hallman, Debra Renfors, Deborah Cooke, Sandra Eichorn, and Karen Delgado-Yates. All five were attacked this summer.

Mayor Virg Bernero called the man a "monster" and said a fog had been lifted from the city. Alley says the women of Lansing should breathe a sigh of relief.

Well I am not at ease, if you put the pieces together I would like this question answered by the LPD. The last murder was on 8/29/07 of Karen Yates, the LPD said they had the suspect since since the evening of 8/28/07 on unrelated charges and it wasnt until the 30th they were able to tie him to the evidence of the crimes and then he went from a person of interest to the prime suspect. Sure doens't make me feel at ease when all the puzzle doesn't fit together properly. I think we are dealing with more than 1 person here. Maybe I missed something, if so please let me know.

I have only been in Michigan for about a week. Upon hearing this news, I was very frighten. I am attending Cooley and walking is the only option I have to get to my classes. On top of that I have a dog that I need to walk regularly. I feel more at ease knowing that the killer is behind bars.

I agree with Traci. Because they "believe" they have caught this killer does not make me feel any safer. When they have "solid evidence" and MORE POLICE patrolling the City of Lansing is when I will feel safe again in the city/place I call Home. No to Camera's!

I will continue be aware until we have more information on why they are so sure he is "the man." I appreciate the hard work, but hope that it is not a rush job. Thank you LPD though, for keeping on top and showing us we can trust in you.

Virg, this man is merely a SUSPECT! You are patting your own back prematurely. You are calling a SUSPECT a monster and telling women to breathe a sigh of relief. It sounds like you are more interested in the glory and the photo ops than the safety of the women in Lansing. I have a little hunch that this guy will not have a fair trial.

I am glad that you think you have the man that was committing these murders, but until you have evidence to show us "The Men And Women of Lansing" I don't think we should let our guard down! This is an extremely scary thing, for all the family's sake i hope you have the right man and we can prosper as a community. Just remember to always pay attention to your surroundings. My prayers are with the victims families. God Bless

Thank you for catching this monster. Make sure his bail is set high enough that it is impossible for him to get out before his trial takes place.

Thank GOD that this man was caught! I will sleep a little easier tonight. Great work LPD!! On another note, while our police department is working on at least 40 less officers this year, why is the Mayor willing to invest money into street cameras instead of putting more officers on the streets?

what about 'innocent until proven guilty', I'm not letting the man arrested off, saying case closed, just hoping we all remain alert and aware.
