Who's the guy who can bring millions of dollars of investment and create jobs right here in the Lansing area?

This guy... Larry Page.

"Page is an East Lansing graduate and one of the cofounders of Google," Joe Manzella said.

Right now, Page's company is looking for communities across the country to test an experimental ultra-fast broadband fiber optic network - one that would deliver internet speeds 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to.

"It would be like that, an instant," Manzella said.

On top of giving regular joes a faster way to download and upload, it would give businesses in the area an edge said Tremaine Phillips of Acclerate Lansing.

"We have medical institutions, Cooley Law school, MSU," Phillips said.

Plus, someone would have to build the infrastructure, which would mean jobs.

Sounds good to five local communities.

"East lansing, Lansing, Meridian township, Ddelta township, and Lansing township," Kathy Dunbar of the Lansing City Council said.

All of which are now working together to convince Google to bring the half billion dollar investment here.

"This has the potential to really benefit the region and Michigan as we move out of manufacturing into the higher tech world," Dunbar said.

Dunbar said the application process has two steps, one application will be submitted by the municipalities, the other must be submitted by individuals in the community.

"Everyone can make an application," she said, "churches, non profits, schools, anyone can come forward to submit an application."

And she hopes they do to show Google the entire community is behind the project, especially if we want the hometown boy to invest here.

Lansing will have tough competition for the prize because hundreds of communities across the US are creating campaigns to woo Google.

Applications can be submitted through March 26th at this site:
