Hundreds gathered in protest outside the Capitol Wednesday.

They were many different people from different groups. looking for change in state government in different ways.

"We want a moratorium on foreclosures, evictions and utility shutoffs," Abayomi Azikiwe from Moratorium Now Coalition said.

"I'm here because people from the city of Detroit are concerned with the governor's appointee Robert Bob," Russ Bellant said.

"We're not here just for higher education, we're here for k-12 too," Lila Wakeman, of the MSU undergraduate alliance, said. "We're here to say to legislators give us more funding."

Wendy Day hosted the "State of the Citizens" rally Wednesday. She said the governor's final state of the state address inside was the perfect platform for protest outside on the lawn.

"You're going to see a lot of anger toward elected officials because it seems there's a big disconnect between the political class and the average citizens of Michigan," Day said.

The was a common theme among the protesters here. They all are well aware it's an election year. Therefore they're hoping their voices are heard.

"Are they listening? Yes, I think they're listening," Day said.

"Both parties have to do something otherwise they are going to suffer extreme disillusionment from the people of Michigan," Azikiwe said.

At times, it did become heated between certain groups, but the State Police report no arrests among the approximately 600 people.
