Call it an early Christmas present for drivers.

"I don't have to think gas or food," Alonzo Griffin said.

Gas prices continue to tumble across Mid Michigan and Mark Griffin, president of the Michigan Petroleum Association said that's good news for everyone.

"Our cost has come down from what big oil charges us as petroleum wholesalers and retailers, our cost has come down over a dollar a gallon now," Griffin said.

The price you pay at the pump depends on what the owners pay for the gas, but the last time oil was under $80 a barrel, the price you paid was a whole lot cheaper.

In fact, it was October 7th of last year when oil was $79.03 a barrel. Back then, the retail price of gas was $2.89.

Friday, the price of oil teetered around the $79 a barrel mark again --- but the average retail price in Lansing was $3.25.

So why the disparity? Griffin said it's timing.

"Big oil hasn't lowered their cost to us the same value," he said.

According to gasbuddy.com, it takes about three months from the time oil is purchased to the time you see the refined gas at the pump.

So that means we won't reap the rewards of the lower barrel prices until this winter.

"Good news, it's coming down," Griffin said. "Crude oil as it comes down, eventually our retail prices will come down as well."

Only time will tell how low they can go.

Gas! What about Diesel? Why hasn't it gone down as fast as the gas? Someone isn't keeping track of all our fuel resourses. We use diesel in our business, a lot if I may say, much more that gas. We need the same consideration in the lowering of the price as much as the other fuels. What gives?????

If Jamie Edmunds was any type of reporter why did she not ask or question this Mark Griffin why when the price of a barrel of oil goes up you see the increase at the pump immediately the same day. What happen to the 3-month delay. It's a bunch of crap their feeding you. Ask the tough questions.

if it takes 3 months for the price to reflect at the pump for oil prices going down then why does it rise so fast? Stations have paid less for what is in there tank compaired to what they are charging!

Michigan is only one of maybe 3 states that have a gas tax and then charge sales tax on top of it. So basically, Michigan is charging a tax on a tax. No wonder Michigan is loosing so many jobs.

Why is it when oil goes up the gas goes up that same day if it takes up to 3 months to refine?

Posted by: Brian Location: Charlotte on Oct 13, 2008 at 01:46 PM
BULL! Execuses for everything! Timing... yeah right, 3 months to come down, 3 seconds to go up!!

I have a hard time believing this is timing. When Hurricane Ike came through Texas in September, the price of gas spiked from $3.59 a gallone to over $4.00 in two days. The oil companies are doing more than lining their pockets! They're price gouging.

Today gasoline in Gregory is $2.52 for regular. You don't think you are getting hosed. The price of gas here was $3.08 for unleaded on Ost. 2, and now it's dropped $0.56 a gallon. I do think you are getting ripped off bigtime.

How can it be 3mos for the price of gas to come down? It takes only minutes for it to go up, when the price of oil goes up on the market!!!

Posted by: Jim Location: Olivet, Mi on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:26 AM
It seems the price fall in gas lags the price fall in crude oil and yet they seem to march in lock step when they move up.

Posted by: RWF Location: Port Orange Fl on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:15 AM
So why do gas prices go up in 2-3 days after oil prices go up????

Posted by: Brian Location: Houston, Texas on Oct 11, 2008 at 01:26 AM
To bad the local, state and feds already added a ton more taxes to the gas and diesel, mainly diesel. Once again, government hurts us just a little more...

Oil price goes up, gas IMMEDIATELY goes up. Oil price goes down, it takes up to 3 months to come down? What a bunch of garbage. Someone needs to punch the CEO's of ALL Big Oil Companies in the mouth like the Lehman CEO.

Posted by: Bartholemew Location: Lansing on Oct 10, 2008 at 07:19 PM
This is BS. Do you really think gas prices will come down to 2.89 in 3 months? The oil companies are still just lining their pockets.

  • Posted By: BuzzSierra it isn't that the Michigan system is flawed, it's the judges that are elected or appointed who interpret the laws and then dole the punishment or lack thereof. The problem that I have is that even though the father and adopted mother may or may not have set the fire they surely should be tried for first-degree murder. I hope that the coroner was able to determine of the victim was sexually or physically abused. Just wish justice would be geared to help the injured instead of the perp.
  • Posted By: sierraThis justice system is flawed. My cousins baby gets murdered this summer and the guy only faces 12 to 22 yrs and now this i am disgusted with michigan I think it should be an eye for an eye forget this 15 yrs. These people have taken a whole lifetime away!
  • Posted By: JodyYou have to wonder who our court system is there to help? Its obvious she was chained to her bed, they were abusing her. They get 15 yrs?? People are sick! They will get 15 lessened to 6 and will end up doing 2 and having a yr probation. People wake up and start yelling, its the only way we will be heard. I say tie them to a bed and set them on fire..
  • Posted By: Mary AnneOnly up to 15 years in prison for what was probably 16 years of sheer torture for this child??? Are the courts as sick as the defendents are?? This is disgusting. Murder by torture is as despicable as pre-meditated murder!
  • Posted By: ANONYMOUSThese parents should be hung. Have the same thing done to them that they did to their daughter. There are some serious sick people in this world and I have no sympathy for them at all!!!
