Surf, sand, and sun just another typical summer day on the shores of Lake Michigan.

"We've been swimming, skate boarding, hanging out in the sun," Steve Utter of Jackson said.

But unfortunately for beach goers, they've also had to hang out with some unwanted guests.

"I found some bags, ribbons, miscellaneous debris," Utter said.

"We found a lot of balloons and ribbons and straws and bottle caps," Patty Murphy of Haslett said.

Garbage is washing ashore. The coast guard said since Monday they've fielded calls of trash from Ludington all the way down to Holland.

The latest report of garbage came Thursday afternoon from the Stoney Lake area.

"It's disappointing," Utter said. "I wish people would clean up their garbage."

For the most part the garbage has been cleaned up, but the Coast Guard said they don't know where it's coming from and they're still investigating.

"It makes you wonder is it coming out from the river?" Ann Davis of Grand Haven wondered. "Are people dumping it off their boats, are people being negligent at the beach?"

The coast guard said they're working with local police departments, the Department of Environmental Quality and the Army Corps of Engineers to get to the bottom of this.

Michiganders say their saddened by this news, but doing their part.

"I pulled some thins out and put it on the shore," Utter said.

So everyone can enjoy the water this summer.

Maybe someone is boycotting the price of garbage removal. It gets more expensive as costs keep getting raised. We see garbage bags in roadside areas.Must of just dropped off a truck or jumped out of someones car?As well as bottles and papers from fast food places.Sure.Just like more road side parks find household garbage in their trash cans.Traceable.Not if no mail with names ect is not there.Just away to save on money so we can have gas money and buy food?Where is this garbage comming from?Could of a garbage truck sank in the lake? Not likely.Just someone being stupid and causeing problems for someone else.Did someone have a wild lake party?Must of been drunk, another excuse. How long will this continue?how much will it cost to clean up,and who pays?????????????????

  • Posted By: BrianHere we go! Let`s stay tuned to see if these Amish were given any kind of citations for seatbelt and booster seats. Thier in a motor vehicle so it sounds fair game to me!
