"It's time for change," says Michigan State Democratic Senator Mark Schauer.
With that, Schauer put his name in the bidding for the 7th District Congressional Seat.
"I'm different," says Schauer. "In some cases it's re-introducing myself to people I've been representing a long time."
Schauer says his campaign will work quickly to garner support in his bid for the congressional seat, and he'll have to. He faces democratic opponent Sharon Reiner in a primary election August 5th.
"This campaign is really about the future of America, and we want to see it remain strong," said Reiner.
Both candidates agree that bringing and keeping jobs in the area is a priority. Schauer totes his success keeping companies in Michigan thanks to legislation giving tax credits for retaining existing jobs.
"These are high tech, high paying jobs," said Schauer. "It takes someone who has that knowledge and the ability to work and think about their state and community rather than defending their own ideology."
Reiner meanwhile, hopes to assist in bringing in some 2,500 jobs to the Albion area.
"A lot of jobs had left this area and it has become very depressed," said Reiner. "Not only would we be bringing those jobs here, but we're hoping to build a campus here of innovation and where people can actually add on to this."
Incumbent 7th District Congressman Tim Walberg is also campaigning, listening and pumping his way through the district.
"People in the 7th district want action to take place in Washington," said Walberg. "This isn't a red state blue state issue. This is an issue of our livelihood... our way of life."
A way of life all three candidates are hoping to change.
