Change can be hard.
"We know the transition is upsetting to some people," Zeus Vazquez said.
But when it comes to switching from analog TV to digital TV... this change is inevitable.
"We answer questions all day long," he said.
Vazquez is the store manager of Radioshack in the Frandor Shopping Center. He sells about a hundred converter boxes a week and said the only thing that outnumbers their sales are the phone calls.
"People call they want to know how soon to hook it up, how to hook it up, if the box is free," Vazquez said.
But he said set-up is as easy as 1-2-3.
" 1. Unhook the antenna cord right from TV where antenna is attached and put it into the converter labeled 'TV in.'
2. Take the jumper cable put it into the back of the box labeled 'TV out' then plug that into the TV.
3. Turn it on and follow the menu prompts," he said.
'Auto Scan' in the menu will scan for the digital channels. He said you must scan every few months to catch the new digital channels sighing on, then once more on February 17th.
After you install and set up your converter box, you should see a picture on your TV right away. If you don't there may be a problem with your digital signal.
"The signal is proving a little difficult to receive," Mike Winsky said.
Winsky is the Chief Engineer at WILX-TV.
"Digital is one of those things you either get it or you don't," Winsky said. "There's no in-between in the digital world."
Winsky said the government is experimenting now.
"Hopefully what we learn will be able to apply in the impending period," he said.
So you have a picture when you wake up on February 17th.
If you don't have a signal, take the converter box back to where you bought it and ask that they test it. If the problem is not with the box, call the local station you are unable to receive.
