More than 230 people packed the Clinton County Courthouse Thursday for a public hearing. They were there for a common goal. They're fighting a proposed adult book store at M100 and I96.

"You can't put it in our community," one resident said.

"This type of store doesn't have any positive effect on our area," another said.

The applicant, Alex Grams, tried to sooth the community's fears.

"There will be no hanging out, no live entertainment, just a novelty shop and lingerie store," Grams said.

He's proposing to replace the old Jerry's Sunoco station on Wright road. So far, he's complied with all of the county's ordinances. The only one that could be a problem... there's a church building 494 feet away.

"We have an instance where the set back required is 500 feet," Richard Trent, the county's director of community development, said.

For residents, their concern is the proximity to their homes.

"There are increased assaults and crimes," one community member said.

"Remember our children its a community and should stay a community," another said.

After hearing numerous comments, the county's planning commission ruled to table the issue for 60 days. They said they will take up the issue at their July meeting.
