STOCKBRIDGE, Mich. (AP) -- Work on a natural gas pipeline in Michigan is blamed for some noticeable banging and hissing noises.

WHMI-FM reports noises heard Tuesday were the result of work being done to remove an inspection tool that became stuck in the pipeline near Stockbridge, about 55 miles west of Detroit. Enbridge Energy says the tool restricted the flow of natural gas.

The purging of gas from a section of pipeline prompted complaints about the sound. Enbridge says natural gas was being released into the air. Spokesman Jason Manshum says the gas noise can sound like "a commercial jet landing."

Enbridge operates the pipeline, which is owned by another company. Work on the pipeline is expected to wrap up by Saturday.
