SCIOTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A woman is charged with second-degree murder in the more than year-old slaying of her husband in their Shiawassee County home.
WSGW-AM and the Lansing State Journal report that 44-year-old Melinda Watkins was arraigned Wednesday. Dean Watkins was shot to death in February 2012 during an argument in Sciota Township, northeast of Lansing.
The State Journal reports the couple was separated at the time and that 43-year-old Dean Watkins was seeing another woman. A former prosecutor did not initially charge Melinda Watkins who said the shooting was accidental. Dean Watkins' family urged the current prosecutor to reopen the case.
Investigators say inconsistencies in Melinda Watkins' statements led to her arrest. The Associated Press could find no telephone number listed for Melinda Watkins. A June 10 preliminary examination is scheduled.
