MENTOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say a wildfire in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula has burned at least 500 acres and forced the evacuation of about 50 homes.
WWTV/WWUP reports the fire is near Mack Lake in Oscoda County's Mentor Township. The station says the fire was about 70 percent contained as of Wednesday night and there were no reports of structures being burned. A shelter was set up at a high school in the nearby community of Mio.
There were no immediate reports of injuries. Police were monitoring the fire.
