For the second week in a row, upper respiratory infections are going around in mid-Michigan.
Last week, doctors in Lansing were treating URIs; this week it's a doctor in Okemos.
Dr. Dennis Perry at Meridian Primary Care, a partner of McLaren Greater Lansing, says the symptoms he's treating are runny, stuffy nose; sore throat; fatigue; headache and cough. Kids may have a low-grade fever.
To treat a URI, take Tylenol or Ibuprofen and drink lots of fluids. Breathing in steam through a hot bath, shower or humidifier may help loosen congestion. You might want to try over-the-counter cold medicines, too.
Expect a cold to last for three to four days and the cough to linger for longer. If symptoms haven't improved after 10 days or symptoms include a high fever, you should see a doctor.
