What's Going Around

By  |

Nurse Practitioner Linda Eckerson at McLaren Greater Lansing-DeWitt Family Medicine is seeing a lot of strep throat cases.

Symptoms are:
--Sudden, severe sore throat
--Pain when swallowing
--Fever above 101 degrees
--Tender, swollen lymph nodes
--Fatigue
--Headache
--White or yellow patches on the tonsils and throat

Anyone with a sore throat and a fever should see a doctor. Strep is treated with antibiotics. At home, you can take Motrin or Tylenol, gargle with warm salt water, rest, and drink fluids.

Strep usually runs its course within three to seven days.
