Nurse Practitioner Linda Eckerson at McLaren Greater Lansing-DeWitt Family Medicine is seeing a lot of patients with the flu.
Symptoms include: fever above 101 degrees, intense body aches, sore throat, cough, headache and chills.
The first three days are usually the worst. You should feel better in about a week to 10 days.
Rest, drink lots of fluids, and take acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever has subsided.
If you have flu symptoms and are at risk of complications, see your doctor right away.
Flu and cold symptoms can be similar enough to cause confusion. Generally, this flu is much more severe and the onset is more sudden than colds.
