Waverly High School will host a memorial open house today for 11th grader Denzel Moss. Moss was shot and killed on Monday night at the Silver Stone Townhomes off of Martin Luther King Blvd in Lansing.

The school will be open to the entire community from noon until 3 p.m. in the cafeteria. Waverly staff and grief counselors will be on hand for support. Students, parents, and community members can gather together to talk, make cards for the family, and speak to counselors and staff.

Waverly High School Principal, Mr. Perkins said in a statement, "Denzel was a great kid who was always smiling. He was friendly and everyone liked him. We enjoyed having him around and he will be missed."

If people would like to leave items in memory of Moss, the Waverly staff will make sure the items will be presented to the family.

An online donation account has been setup on the Waverly web site in memory of Moss. All proceeds will be given to the Moss family. Visit the Waverly web site at web.waverly.k12.mi.us and click on the "Payschools" link at the top left of the Waverly web site home page.

Waverly High School is located at 160 Snow Road, Lansing 48917. Waverly Community Schools asks people to enter on the west side of the building at the cafeteria door for the open house memorial.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
