Unemployment Nearing 10% in Parts of Mid-Michigan

Regional jobless rates are continuing to rise in mid-Michigan and across the state according to statistics released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget.

June 2013 - 8.1%
May 2013 - 7.5%
June 2012 - 8.0%
June 2013 - 9.4%
May 2013 - 8.7%
June 2012 - 9.1%

Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates increased in all of Michigan's 17 major labor market areas in June, according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget. Total employment and labor force levels advanced seasonally in most regions over the month.
"Employment and workforce levels expanded in most Michigan regions in June with the continuation of summer and seasonal hiring," said Michael Williams, acting director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information & Strategic Initiatives. "Due to the large influx of job seekers, June jobless rates increased typically. Over the past year, regional unemployment rates displayed only modest change, however labor force and employment levels rose."
